John T. “Jackie” McCarthy

Family & friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, February 16th from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Rte. 107), REVERE, for John T. McCarthy, who passed on Saturday, February 11th at his Chelsea Admiral’s Hill residence, following a ten year well fought battle with metastatic carcinoma. His Funeral Service will be conducted immediately following the visitation in the funeral home at 11:15 a.m. All services will conclude with entombment at Holy Cross Community Mausoleum, Malden.

Born & raised in Revere, he attended Revere High school & was a member of the graduating class of 1950. All of his life was spent as a senior bartender within the circle of high-end supper clubs & lounges in downtown Boston, Gloucester & Florida. He formally retired in 2003. John had a passion for the “good-life”, particularly, fine food, and wines, dapper clothes & adventurous traveling. He owned a large & wonderful personality. He enjoyed many long-time friendships & relationships, throughout his 84 years.

He was the beloved son of the late Thomas J. & Lillian M. (Burns) McCarthy. He was the adored brother to Marilyn M. Melone. He is the devoted uncle of Judy H. Rizzo & her husband David of Peabody, Kathleen Angelini & her husband Gary & Shawn Cook & her husband Michael, all of Revere. He is also lovingly survived by four grand-nephews, Jason D. Rizzo of Peabody, Nicholas D. Rizzo & his wife, Sarah of Wilmington, Michael Cook & his girlfriendColleen of Lynn & Matthew Cook of Revere.

On September 30th, 2022, we proudly purchased the Vazza “Beechwood” Funeral Home – DiPietro and Vazza, Inc. A name that has served families for 102 years. We feel blessed that with all of the interest, the Vazza Family chose us to carry on their century old business and family name. We will become Vertuccio Smith & Vazza, Beechwood Home for Funerals. We will continue to honor the Vazza name and continue our commitment the same way that we always have. We also look forward to having both Louis Vazza and Jessica Vazza Ferragamo alongside of us, as we come together as one.
Our reputation has always been our biggest asset. For many years people always wanted us to have a larger facility, now our facility is the largest funeral home in the area. We will be making many beautiful upgrades to allow our families to have the most elegant facility to honor their loved one.
Although this announcement is bittersweet, as we say goodbye to our home, we are forever grateful for all of you for placing your constant faith and trust in us to care for your loved one. We will continue to do what we are best known for.
