Margaret P. “Peggy” (Driscoll) O’Hara-Shanahan

Family and friends are invited to attend Visiting Hours on Monday, August 23rd from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., in the Vertuccio and Smith, Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Rt. 107) REVERE for Margaret P. “Peggy” (Driscoll) O’Hara – Shanahan, who died unexpectedly at her home on Monday, August 16th. Born in Chelsea, she was the daughter of the late John P. and Mary Driscoll.  Peggy was raised and educated in Revere and was an alumna of the Immaculate Conception High School, Class of 1954. She married & raised her children in Revere. She was the first female City Council Woman in Revere. She was sworn in place of her former husband Edward L. O’Hara. Her love for her daughters was unwavering, they are what always mattered the most and her grandchildren were the loves of her life. Peggy went to work for Fidelity Investments as a funds processing analyst for many years until she retired. She worked as a server at Maggio’s Restaurant in Revere for many years. Peggy’s personality made her everyone’s favorite server. She always made everyone feel special. Peggy had many interests and talents; one of course was her gift to decorate & redecorate a room or a home. A very talented seamstress, she could make anything, and she would share her creations with her family and friends. She had a deep love for the beach. She could often be found at Revere Beach with her dear friends, Cynthia and Maureen and the children in tow.  Although she loved to travel to the West Coast, her favorite place was being with her daughters.

Peggy is the loving and proud mother of Lynne A. Caramello & husband Ret. Revere Fire Lt. James V. Caramello of Revere, Erin M. DeNofrio and husband Michael DeNofrio of North Reading, Lauren A. O’Hara and Revere Police Captain Amy M. O’Hara and husband Frank Shea of Middleton. Cherished grandmother of Alexandra, Casey, Caitlyn, Mia, and Frankie. Dear sister of Paul J. Driscoll & wife Annette of Revere, the late John “Jack”, George “Gigi” and James Driscoll. She is lovingly survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces & grandnephews, as well as many friends & extended family. Late Member of the Immaculata Guild.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105-9959.

To all our families, friends, and residents of Revere, East Boston, and surrounding communities of the North Shore,

We would like to announce that after 37 years of caring for thousands of families at our 773 Broadway location, on January 31st, 2023 we will be officially RELOCATING, to our new location at 262 Beach St., Revere.
On September 30th, 2022, we proudly purchased the Vazza “Beechwood” Funeral Home – DiPietro and Vazza, Inc. A name that has served families for 102 years. We feel blessed that with all of the interest, the Vazza Family chose us to carry on their century old business and family name. We will become Vertuccio Smith & Vazza, Beechwood Home for Funerals. We will continue to honor the Vazza name and continue our commitment the same way that we always have. We also look forward to having both Louis Vazza and Jessica Vazza Ferragamo alongside of us, as we come together as one.
Our reputation has always been our biggest asset. For many years people always wanted us to have a larger facility, now our facility is the largest funeral home in the area. We will be making many beautiful upgrades to allow our families to have the most elegant facility to honor their loved one.
Although this announcement is bittersweet, as we say goodbye to our home, we are forever grateful for all of you for placing your constant faith and trust in us to care for your loved one. We will continue to do what we are best known for.
Thank you for your friendship and continued support.
God bless you all.
Faithfully,

Your friends at Vertuccio Smith and Vazza.
