Marie D. “Mary” (Salamone) Pirrello

Family & friends are invited to attend Visiting Hours on Friday, June 18th from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., in the Vertuccio & Smith, Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Rte. 107) REVERE for Marie D. “Mary” (Salamone) Pirrello, who died on June 15th in the loving presence of her family & God at her daughter’s home in Revere, following a brief illness, she was in her 98th year. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Sacred Heart Church, 45 Brooks St., EAST BOSTON at 12:00 p.m. (Noon) followed with interment in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.

Marie was born to Benedetto & Angelina (Drogo) Salamone on June 26, 1923 in East Boston. Marie, also known as Mary, remained in East Boston living in the same house all of her life. She was educated in Boston Public Schools and attended East Boston High School. Mary, like so many families during her era, had to help and go to work to support the family. Mary began to work in Boston’s Garment District. She began as a stitcher & quickly worked her way up to floor lady. Mary left behind her work when she was married to her husband Phillip Pirrello in 1947. She then became a homemaker, where she raised her two daughters and took care of the home. She cherished her role as wife & mother. Mary was a woman of wit, smarts & humor. She loved being a grandmother & great grandmother. She had a special place for all her grandchildren & great grandchildren. She was truly the matriarch of her family. Mary would love to cook for any & all occasions. Anyone who knew Mary knew that she loved her trips to the Casinos. She loved playing the slots for hours. She was also a longtime Celtics fan. Mary knew every single Celtics player, past & present. Her age represents a long life spent loving, sharing, teaching & making memories. 

She is the beloved wife of the late Phillip “Lepo” Pirrello of 48 years. Loving & treasured mother of Josephine Parziale & her husband Carmen & Angela Buchan & her late husband Thomas J. Buchan, Jr., all of Revere. Cherished grandmother of David Parziale of Reading, Phillip Parziale & his wife Jenney of Boston, Karen Wells & her husband Kevin of Danvers, Carmen “C.J.” Parziale & his wife Jaclyn of Boxford, Linda J. Hart & her husband David of Revere & Marie Russell & her husband Edward of Ocala, FL. Adored great grandmother of Ashley, Kayla, Olivia, Eddie, Stephanie, Andrea, Samantha, Tommy, Sydney, Matthew, Nathan & Peter. Dear sister of the late Stella A. DiPerri, Benedetto Salamone, Paul Salamone, Robert Salamone & Josephine Forti. She is also lovingly survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews & many friends and extended family.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

We would like to announce that after 37 years of caring for thousands of families at our 773 Broadway location, on January 31st, 2023 we will be officially RELOCATING, to our new location at 262 Beach St., Revere.
On September 30th, 2022, we proudly purchased the Vazza “Beechwood” Funeral Home – DiPietro and Vazza, Inc. A name that has served families for 102 years. We feel blessed that with all of the interest, the Vazza Family chose us to carry on their century old business and family name. We will become Vertuccio Smith & Vazza, Beechwood Home for Funerals. We will continue to honor the Vazza name and continue our commitment the same way that we always have. We also look forward to having both Louis Vazza and Jessica Vazza Ferragamo alongside of us, as we come together as one.
Our reputation has always been our biggest asset. For many years people always wanted us to have a larger facility, now our facility is the largest funeral home in the area. We will be making many beautiful upgrades to allow our families to have the most elegant facility to honor their loved one.
Although this announcement is bittersweet, as we say goodbye to our home, we are forever grateful for all of you for placing your constant faith and trust in us to care for your loved one. We will continue to do what we are best known for.
