Mildred (Bentley) Bencale

Family & friends are invited to attend a visitation on Thursday, April 4th, 2013 beginning at 9 a.m. in the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107), Revere, for Mildred (Bentley) Bencale, who died on Good Friday, March 29th at the Bear Hill Nursing Center of Wakefield, following a long confinement, at 85 years.  A funeral will be conducted from the funeral home, followed by a funeral mass on Thursday in St. Anthony of Padua Church, Revere, at 11 a.m.  Born & raised in Palmetto, Georgia, she came to live in Revere over 60 years ago.  Before retiring in 1989, she worked within the Chelsea School System as a cafeteria worker for over 10 years.  In 1990, she moved briefly to Florida & then return to Massachusetts & made her home with her Daughter, Mildred J. Pontremoli & her husband, Edward J. in Rowley, MA.  In 2004, she became a resident of Bear Hill Nursing Center, when her health began to decline.  She was the wife of the late John Bencale, who died in June of 1980.  She is the Devoted Mother of, John Bencale & his wife Barbara of Fountain Hills, Arizona, Robert A. Bencale & his wife Maureen of Stoneham, & Mildred J. Pontremoli & her husband Edward J. of Newburyport.  She is the Cherished Grandmother of Angela Macero & her husband Joseph of Wakefield, Danielle Pontremoli of Newburyport, Jay Bencale & his wife Tiffany of Nunan, GA, Nicole Cover & her husband Craig Cover of Kentucky, Michael & Christopher Bencale both of Swampscott, Robert Bencale of California, & Jake Bencale of Stoneham.  She is also lovingly survived by two great-grandchildren, Brandon & Gracie, a sister-in-law, Linda Bentley of Florida, & many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, & grand-nephews.  “Millie” was the last of her siblings.  She was the Sister of the late, John R., Fred, Charles, James, & Joseph Bentley, & the late, Dolly Smith, Mabel & Thelma Bentley.  In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the MSPCA-Angell, 350 S. Huntington Ave., Boston, MA 02130-9923, or to: Dana Farber Cancer Institute & the Jimmy Fund, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168.  Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.

On September 30th, 2022, we proudly purchased the Vazza “Beechwood” Funeral Home – DiPietro and Vazza, Inc. A name that has served families for 102 years. We feel blessed that with all of the interest, the Vazza Family chose us to carry on their century old business and family name. We will become Vertuccio Smith & Vazza, Beechwood Home for Funerals. We will continue to honor the Vazza name and continue our commitment the same way that we always have. We also look forward to having both Louis Vazza and Jessica Vazza Ferragamo alongside of us, as we come together as one.
Our reputation has always been our biggest asset. For many years people always wanted us to have a larger facility, now our facility is the largest funeral home in the area. We will be making many beautiful upgrades to allow our families to have the most elegant facility to honor their loved one.
Although this announcement is bittersweet, as we say goodbye to our home, we are forever grateful for all of you for placing your constant faith and trust in us to care for your loved one. We will continue to do what we are best known for.
