Phyllis M. Hanson
Family & friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Friday, September 6th in the Vertuccio and Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107) Revere begining at 9 am, for Phyllis M. Hanson, who died Wednesday, September 4th, following a brief illness at the Lighthouse Nursing Care Center of Revere. The visitation will be followed by a funeral mass in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 250 Revere St., Revere at 11 a.m.. A native of Chelsea, she attended St. Rose Grammar School & was a 1943 Alumna of St. Rose High School & was a 1943 alumna of Emmanuel College. She was the beloved daughter of the late Elizabeth (Dobbyns) Hanson & Chelsea Firefighter Clarence F. Hanson. After College , Phyllis had the opportunity to travel with her father when he left Chelsea and became a Federal Fire Chief for the government, serving all over the world. She would spend the next 15 years, traveling with her father to India, The Islands & Barbados. Her adventures with her dad became her most cherished memories. In September of 1964 she began her career with the Chelsea School System, teaching business course & ultimately took a position as a Guidance Counselor at Chelsea High School, where she retired in June of 1998. She is a member of the Retired Chelsea Teachers Association & the Retired Massachusetts Teachers Association. When Phyllis was just 6 years old, she suffered the loss of her mom. Her father, knowing the need for a Mothers presence in the home, he married , his wife’s sister, Mary (Dobbyns) to help raise & nurture his children. Mary became a mentor & inspiration to Phyllis, the love & memory of that union remained with her until her death. She is the sister of the late, Arthur & Robert Hanson, She is the devoted aunt to Bettina Virgin & her husband Carl of Ogunquit, ME. , Sr. Claire Hanson, S.P., Christine M. Bishop, Paula E. Dalis & her husband Philip, all of Stoneham, Kimberly Robinson & her husband , Brad of York, ME., & the late Aileen G. Robblee. She is also lovingly survived by several grand nieces and grand nephews. Interment will be Private. Remembrances may be made to your favorite Charity.
I was so sorry to hear about the death of Phyllis, my cousin. All together there were 9 cousins. Now that she has gone, I am the last one left. She was a strong, independent, reliable person. She had a strong work ethic and lived a good life.2
Our sincere condolences on the passing of Phyllis, she is at peace in heaven with the Lord. She was a wonderful woman and friend we will miss her dearly.
