Robert P. Kelly
Family & friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, July 30th from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway, Revere, for Robert P. Kelly, who died on Sunday, July 26th at his Point of Pines residence following a lengthy illness. His funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Friday, July 31st at 9:00 a.m. followed by a funeral mass in St. John the Evangelist Church, 320 Winthrop St., Winthrop at 10:00 a.m.
Born in Everett, he was educated and raised in Revere, attended Revere schools and was a 1955 alumnus of Revere High School. In April of 1956, he entered the US Air Force, serving until March of 1960, as an Airman 2nd Class. He began his career in Police work, at the Winthrop Station, then transferring to the former M.D.C. Police in 1964 and remaining there until 1992. During the 1970s, Trooper Kelly, was a personal chauffeur to the late John Sears, Commissioner of the M.D.C. His tenure with John, was a milestone in his career and the formation of a life-long friendship with the late Sears, until his death last November. He returned to school and graduated from Northeastern University, School of Criminal Justice in 1975. He also held a 4 year term as Winthrop Park Commissioner. He is a member of RAMP (Retired Association of Metropolitan Police).
He leaves his wife Susan H. (Segal) Kelly. He is the devoted father of Karen M. Perrin and her husband Lt. Col. Brian J. Perrin of Winthrop, Robert P. Kelly, Jr. and his fiancé Crissy Cook of Deerfield Beach, FL, Eileen W. Johnson and her husband Erik M. Johnson of Winthrop, Wendi Joy Brenner and her partner Jennifer Brault of Lynn and the late Michael S. Brenner. He is the cherished grandfather of Brian J. and Daniel P. Perrin, Catherine M., Jillian K. and Mark R. Johnson, all of Winthrop. He is the dear brother of Dr. Albert W. Kelley and his late wife Dorothy P. of Revere and Paul F. Kelly and his wife Doreen of Everett. He is also lovingly survived by many nieces, nephews and by Robyn Segal and her wife Denise Rivera of Lynn and Phillip H. Segal and his wife Laura of Wakefield. Interment will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
To my best neighbor/ like a dad to me. Bob was the best guy I ever met and I’m going to miss him so much.
