Rose M. “Babe” (LaRaia) Giangregorio
Family & friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Monday, January 25th, in the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Rte.107), Revere from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. for Rose M. “Babe” (LaRaia) Giangregorio who died unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 20th at Mass. General Hospital, Boston. Her funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Tuesday, January 26th at 10:30 a.m., follow by a funeral mass in St. John the Evangelist Church, Winthrop at 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow at the family lot at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
Born & raised in East Boston, she attended Boston Schools & was an alumna of Girls’ High of Boston, Class of 1945. As a young girl, she worked for the Commonwealth of Mass. at the State House as a secretarial aide. For 35 years, she was Executive Secretary to the Business Agent of Bethlehem Steel, Local 25. “Babe” was the always energetic to the max and enjoyed every facet of life. She married her long-time sweetheart, Lawrence Giangregorio in 1950 and nourished him until he died on March 1, 1985, suffering from a long tenure with cancer. She was a many year member of the Winthrop Lodge of the Sons of Italy,(Ladies Chapter), and was active in many of their charity events and social events. Never idle, she was also a long-time member of the Winthrop Senior Center (Robert A. DeLeo Senior Center) & a vibrant member of their Italian Club & Zumba Club. And, in addition to all, she was a member of the Waterfront Crew Poets of Winthrop, a chapter of the Mass. State Poetry Society, Inc. She joined with her son, Alan, a membership in the Dicken’s Fellowship – Boston Branch. She & her husband, moved from East Boston to Winthrop in August of 1967. “Babe” was a very proud Winthrop resident, but never lost her love and passion for the East Boston, that she knew.
She is the devoted mother of Alan L. Giangregorio & his wife, Denise of Winthrop and Lawrence P. Giangregorio and his wife Irene of Melrose. She is the cherished grandmother of Adam A. Giangregorio of Jamaica Plain, Luke N. Giangregorio of Winthrop, Paul J. Giangregorio of Melrose & Alyssa R. Giangregorio of Beverly. She is the dear sister of Isabelle C. Gardiner of Brookline and the adored aunt of Leslie F. Ciampi & her husband, Peter & their family of Lexington. May “Babe’s” zest for life, be an inspiration to all.
