Sophie J. (Russell) Gatta

Family & friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Friday, October 10th, 2014 in the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107), Revere, beginning at 9 a.m., for Sophie J. (Russell) Gatta, who died following a lengthy battle with pulmonary carcinoma on Monday evening, October 6th at the Leonard-Florence Center for Living of Chelsea, at 85 years.  Her funeral service will follow the visitation in the funeral home at 12 Noon, followed by interment in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.  Mrs. Gatta came to live in Revere over 70 years ago, after being born & raised in Waterbury, Connecticut.  A devoted homemaker, she worked for several years at Bradlee’s Department Store of Chelsea as a clerk, until retirement.  Her husband, Robert F. Gatta, died in October of 2007.  She is the devoted & beloved mother of: Kathleen M. Bruno & her husband Michael C. of Saugus, Robert J. Gatta & his fiancée Joanne of Everett, & the late Elaine M. Wilton.  She is the cherished grandmother to: Ashley N., Courtney L. & Tyler M. Wilton all of Revere, Kristen M. Gatta of Winthrop, Amanda N. Gatta of Revere, Stacey A. Bruno, & Christopher M. Bruno & his wife Amanda, all of Saugus.  She is the dear sister to Evelyn Benedetto of Revere, & the late: Marie Russell & John Russell.  Also lovingly survived by her 3 great-grandchildren, Gianna, Emily, & Cruz, her son-in-law Michael J. Wilton, & many nieces & nephews.

We feel blessed that with all of the interest, the Vazza Family chose us to carry on their century old business and family name. We will become Vertuccio Smith & Vazza, Beechwood Home for Funerals. We will continue to honor the Vazza name and continue our commitment the same way that we always have. We also look forward to having both Louis Vazza and Jessica Vazza Ferragamo alongside of us, as we come together as one.
Our reputation has always been our biggest asset. For many years people always wanted us to have a larger facility, now our facility is the largest funeral home in the area. We will be making many beautiful upgrades to allow our families to have the most elegant facility to honor their loved one.
Although this announcement is bittersweet, as we say goodbye to our home, we are forever grateful for all of you for placing your constant faith and trust in us to care for your loved one. We will continue to do what we are best known for.
