William E. Powers

Family & friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, December 15th, 2013 from 4 – 8 p.m. in the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107), Revere, for William E. Powers, who died unexpectedly on Saturday, December 7th at his home in Anderson, South Carolina, at 65 years.  The funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Monday, December 16th at 9:30 a.m. followed by a funeral mass in the Blessed Sacrament Church, 16 Summer St., Saugus, at 10:30 a.m.  Interment will be private.  Born in Saugus on August 8, 1948, Bill attended Saugus schools & was a 1966 graduate of Saugus High School.  He attended Wentworth Institute of Boston & graduated in 1970.  For over 20 years, he worked for Peabody Municipal Light Plant as an electrician, retiring in 2012, & moved to South Carolina.  Prior to the move, he lived in Revere for about 10 years.  The majority of his life was spent in Saugus.  He was an Army Veteran of Vietnam & Desert Storm, & served 24 years with the Army National Guard.  His memberships include the Saugus American Legion Post & the VFW & the Saugus Lodge of Elks.  Mr. Powers was a motorcycle enthusiast & member of the Hampton Seacoast Motorcycle Club.  He is survived by his devoted wife Brenda J. (Hemeon) Powers.  He is the beloved father of: William E. Powers, Jr. & his wife Michelle of Epping, New Hampshire, Jennifer & Janine Powers both of Saugus, Kim M. Catizone & her husband Michael of Pelham, NH, & Cheryl L. Cimino & her husband Sandro of West Peabody.  He is the cherished grandfather to Ashley, Nicole, Kaley, Samantha, Joseph, Cole, Cheyenne, & Nicholas.  He is the dear brother of Jacqueline Howard & her husband Donald of Saugus.  He is also lovingly survived by his great-granddaughter Cassidy, many nieces, nephews & cousins in Ireland.  He is also survived by his many friends & extended family in Anderson, SC.  In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to: The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 60 Walnut St., Wellesley Hills, MA 02481.

We feel blessed that with all of the interest, the Vazza Family chose us to carry on their century old business and family name. We will become Vertuccio Smith & Vazza, Beechwood Home for Funerals. We will continue to honor the Vazza name and continue our commitment the same way that we always have. We also look forward to having both Louis Vazza and Jessica Vazza Ferragamo alongside of us, as we come together as one.
Our reputation has always been our biggest asset. For many years people always wanted us to have a larger facility, now our facility is the largest funeral home in the area. We will be making many beautiful upgrades to allow our families to have the most elegant facility to honor their loved one.
Although this announcement is bittersweet, as we say goodbye to our home, we are forever grateful for all of you for placing your constant faith and trust in us to care for your loved one. We will continue to do what we are best known for.
