He is a World War II Veteran, & he was the recipient of the Purple Heart & the Good Conduct Medal. After the war, he returned home & married Agnes M. (Dillon). They enjoyed a “love story” romance & life together, for 64 years, ending with her death in June of 2011. The couple were world travelers & often took along their nieces & nephews on extended trips. Their generosity is legendary. Jim opened & operated for over 40 years, The Murphy Insurance Agency on Beach St., Revere. The couple retired in the late 1980’s. He was the son of the late Ambrose J. & Mary E. “Mabel” (Foley) Murphy. He was also the Brother of the late, Fred Murphy, Sr., Mabel O’Donnell, Ambrose “Terry” & John Murphy & Grace Callina. Both Jim & Agnes were devotees of Immaculate Conception Parish Family & the former St. Theresa’s Parish of Revere. A little known fact about the Murphy’s, was their unfledging support of St. Theresa’s Church. For many years, the oil bill was a constant concern of our beloved late Father O’Leary & Father Gaudette. Jim & Agnes were always there with an unusually extraordinary gift to help keep the “fires burning.” In Revere, as the years have rolled by, the beneficence of many an old Revere family were hallmark to the goodness, kindness & often, anonymous generosity these folks were made of. May they all enjoy the special reward they worked & lived for, in a share of the “eternal life.” Amen and Amen and Alleluia!
