Services have been held for Dorothy M. (Smith) Jannino, who died unexpectedly at her Revere residence on Sunday, June 1st. A life long resident of Revere, she was an alumna of Revere High School, Class of 1957. Dorothy’s wants were few, as her family was the center of her life. She is the wife of the late, Anthony J. “Slim” Jannino, who passed in December of 1977. She is the devoted mother of Donna M. Ciarlone of Bradenton, FL & Lisa Marie Arma & her husband Jose of Revere. She is the cherished grandmother of Ashley L. & Kasey L. Arma both of Revere, Anthony J. Soto & his partner Craig Lampert – Soto of Mansfield. Amanda C. Soto & her partner , Randy Johnston, Alexander L. Soto & his partner Charleen Jimenez, Adam C. Soto & his fiancée, Breanna Wilson & Alisabeth V. Soto all of Florida. She is the dear sister of Edward Smith & his wife Edna of FL, Donald P. Smith of Revere, Janet Parker & her husband John of Chelsea & the late former Revere City Councilor Richard A. “Dick” Smith who passed on February 14, 2014 & the late Frank “Sonny” Smith & William “Billy” Smith. She is also lovingly survived by her great granddaughter, Jaslyn D. Torres & her sister in law Kathleen “Kathy” (DeRosa) Smith of Revere and many nieces & nephews. Interment was private. Bertocchi, who died on Thursday, May 22nd at the Rubin-Thompson Assisted Living of Saugus, following a long illness, at 75 years. His funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Saturday, May 31st at 9:30 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in the Immaculate Conception Church (corner of Beach St. & Winthrop Ave.), Revere, at 10:30 a.m. Born & raised in Everett, his family moved to Revere when Joe was a young boy. Joseph was a 1956 alumnus of Revere High School, & a 1960 alumnus of Northeastern University. He taught elementary school for over 30 years, retiring in 2000. Most of his career was at Whelan School of Revere, teaching the 5th & 6th Grades. He entered the United States Army in October of 1961 & served until October of 1963. Joseph was past President & member of the Revere Society for the Cultural & Historic Preservation. He was passionate about the organization’s success. He was also a long-time active member of the I.C.C. Parish Community. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden. He was the beloved son of the late, Joseph A. & Margaret M. (McCarthy) Bertocchi. He is the devoted brother of Robert F. Bertocchi of Revere. He is also lovingly survived by several cousins & former colleagues.

(Montanaro) Merullo, who died on Thursday, May 22nd following a long illness at Boston’s Massachusetts General Hospital, at 88 years. She worked for New England Tel. & Tel. for several years, before retirement, at the main office in Boston. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. Ann’s greatest joy came from her ability to entertain & cook for not only her immediate family, but for her extended family as well. The holidays, “all the holidays,” were special to her & her family. Her beloved late husband, Raymond J. Merullo, died in November of 2008. She is the cherished mother of Denise M. Merullo of Revere, & Carol A. Pizziferri of Winthrop. She is the special aunt to Paul Giampa of Somersworth, New Hampshire, & the dear cousin to: Stella DiVenuti & her husband Albert of Malden, Barbara Woods of Peabody, Ralph DeMarco of Revere, & Dr. Robert Pitzi & his wife Mary of Plaistow, NH. She was also the sister of the late Ella Giampa. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett. Gail moved to Everett over thirty years ago. She was the wife of the late James Daley, Jr. She is the cherished mother of Glenda Still-Sarno & her husband Richard of Billerica, Robert L. Still & his wife Rochelle of Saugus, Richard T. Still of Everett, & the late John A. Still. She is the devoted sister of Glenda A. Palladino, who died on Saturday, May 17th at Salem Hospital following a lengthy illness, at 73 years. His funeral will be held from the Funeral Home on Thursday, May 22nd at 9:30 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in the Immaculate Conception Church (corner of Beach St. & Winthrop Ave.), Revere, at 10:30 a.m. Born in Lynn, Al was a life-long Revere resident & an alumnus of Revere High School, Class of 1958, a graduate of Boston University, Class of 1961, & an alumnus of Massachusetts College of Pharmacy, Class of 1975. He received his Master’s Degree in Education in 1995. Al worked in the family owned & run business, City Hall Pharmacy of Revere, since he was a teenager. Later, he, together with his Dad & brother, Peter, would operate the drug store until its closing in 1993. In September of 1993, Al began a 2nd career with the Revere School System, as Health Officer & Attendance Officer. That would continue until poor health forced him to retire in 2007. City Hall Pharmacy was opened in the late 1930’s by Al’s father, George V. Palladino, Sr., who died in 1973. Although the pharmacy closed in 1993, the Palladino family (Peter) ran a breakfast-luncheonette until 2012. The Pharmacy & later the luncheonette were Broadway hallmarks & meccas for many of Revere’s “intelligentia” & politicians to have many a spirited debate. “City Hall Pharmacy” was always community active & generous to the many organizations & charities that sought their help. As a young man, Al developed a keen interest in aeronautics. Al was proud to have built his own plane & obtained his license as a commercial Pilot. His enthusiasm obviously influenced his son, Albert, to his career choice as a commercial Pilot. Albert was the husband of the late, Elaine C. (Faulstick) Palladino, who died on March 25, 1992. He is the devoted father of: Albert P. Palladino, a licensed commercial Pilot out of Anchorage, Alaska, & Alicia M. Palladino, R.N., a specialist in Oncology Nursing of Nashville, Tennessee. He is the cherished brother to Peter A. Palladino & his wife, Judith L., of Revere. He is lovingly survived by his longtime “Sweetie,” Linda M. Pennacchio, of Revere, the Pennacchio Family of Melrose & Reading, & also leaves many friends & colleagues. He was also the brother of the late: George V. Palladino, Jr., Charles A. & Marilyn A. Palladino, R.N., & the son of the late George V. Palladino, Sr. & Albertina A. (Lanthier) Palladino. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett. The family moved to Revere in 1979. “Pat” was an active member of the Revere Chamber of Commerce, the Revere Emblem Club & Drill Team, & the Revere Lodge of Elks, #1171. Her late husband, Roland C. Johnson, died in December of 1990. She is the devoted mother of Patricia A. Pace, the cherished grandmother to Crystal A. Pace & Kattie-Lynne Pace, & the beloved great-grandmother of James Thomas, all of Revere. Also lovingly survived by her dedicated companion of 18 years, Laurence Gordon, of Florida (formerly of Revere), & the dear aunt to Denise A. Robert H. Pesce

Pesce, who died unexpectedly on Friday, May 9th at his Everett residence, at 62 years. The funeral service will follow the visitation in the funeral home at 3:15 p.m. Born & raised in Everett, he lived there all his life, graduating from Everett High School, Class of 1969. For over twenty years, he had a working career with the City of Everett, within the Water Department. He was both in the field & worked as a meter reader. Over twelve years ago, “Bob” became very ill & successfully underwent double transplant surgery, receiving a kidney & liver transplant. He enjoyed a complete recovery in spite of the many ongoing effects of transplant surgery. “Bob” maintained a positive outlook & attitude throughout his tedious illness. He is the beloved father of Tyla E. Pesce of Revere. He is the devoted brother of: Natale A. “Ned” Pesce, Jr. & his wife Angela of Methuen, formerly of Everett, Frances M. Pesce & her companion Deborah Saperia of Framingham, & the late Anthony Pesce. He is also lovingly survived by his former wife, Elizabeth A. “Liz” (Lovetere) Pesce of Revere. Austin, who passed following a 14 year illness at Chelsea Soldiers’ Home on Thursday, May 8th, at 70 years. On Wednesday, May 14th (Richard’s 71st Birthday), all are welcome to a visitation at the Cardinal Cushing Pavilion, adjacent to St. Michael the Archangel Chapel, beginning at 10 a.m. & followed by the funeral mass in the Chapel at 11 a.m. on the campus at Chelsea Soldiers’ Home, 91 Crest Ave., Chelsea. Born in the Bronx, New York, he was a life-long Revere resident. Richard was a graduate of Immaculate Conception High School Class of 1961. He was an alumnus of Bentley College, Class of 1973. Richard retired after 14 years of service as a probate & tax accountant for Burns & Levinson of Boston. Richard served with the United States Army during the Viet-Nam Conflict from September of 1964 – September of 1967. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception “Reveries” – a popular Drum & Bugle Corps. Richard was also a Eucharistic Minister for St. Agnes Parish of Arlington. Richard was an avid gardener, & was especially proud of the variety of roses he grew & nurtured. He anticipated his annual vacations with his wife, Susanna, especially at Bar Harbor, Maine, & for over 30 years at the Arcadia National Park. He was overwhelmed by the beauty & the natural resources of the Park. Richard sustained an early dementia diagnosis, 14 years ago, which resulted in his residency at Soldiers’ Home, Chelsea, since March of 2008. There, he received extraordinary care & optimum medical attention, for which his wife, Susanna, will be forever grateful. He is survived by his devoted & dedicated wife of 42 years, Susanna M. (Gill) Austin. He is the dear cousin to Donna Parsons, Diane Mulligan, & Susan Gliner, all of California. He was the cherished son of the late, Stanley E. & Theresa M. (Parsons) Austin. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett. Remembrances may be made to St. Michael the Archangel Chapel, 91 Crest Ave., Chelsea, MA 02150.
