Family & friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Monday, September 8th, 2014 beginning at 10 a.m. in the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107), Revere, for Peter J. Sawtelle, who died unexpectedly on Saturday, August 30th, at 77 years, after being rushed to Massachusetts General Hospital of Boston.  The Funeral Service will follow the visitation in the funeral home at 12 Noon, followed by interment in Puritan Lawn Memorial Cemetery,West Peabody.  Born & raised in Boston’s West End, he came to live in Revere over 58 years ago.  Most of his working career was in the Contracting business as a salesman.  He is the devoted father of Jessica L. Sargent of Amesbury, MA, & the cherished grandfather of Albert M. Sargent of Haverhill & Alex M. Sargent of Amesbury.  He is the dear brother of Victoria L. Lentini of Revere & the late Joseph P. Sawtelle.  He is also lovingly survived by his former wife, Cheryl L. Hazelton of Amesbury, & also two great-grandsons, Anthony M. Lattime-Sargent & Adrian M. Mason-Sargent, & several nieces & nephews.  He was the son of the late, Joseph & Mary H. (Othmer) Sawtelle.  In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to your favorite charity.

Stanley J. Meads

 

Family & friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Monday, August 25th, 2014 from 4 – 8 p.m. in the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107), Revere, for Stanley J. Meads, who died following a lengthy illness, surrounded in the love & devotion of his family on Friday, August 22nd at his Middleton home, at 81 years.  The funeral will be conducted on Tuesday, August 26th from the Funeral Home at 9:30 a.m., followed by a funeral mass at St. Agnes Church, 22 Boston St., Middleton at 10:30 a.m.  Stanley was born & raised in East Boston & was a 1951 alumnus of East Boston High School.  He entered the United States Navy in February of 1952 & served until February of 1956.  He is a veteran of the Korean Conflict.  In 1960, he & his brothers founded the Meads Plumbing Company of East Boston.  Stanley operated & owned his business until 2002, when he retired.  The son of immigrant Portuguese parents, the late Manuel F. & Julia (Diaz) Meads, they settled in East Boston & were among the founders & first members of St. John the Baptist, Portuguese Church, on Saratoga St., East Boston.  Although the Church property was sold & converted to condominiums, the social & devotional societies of the Church are still in meeting.  Stanley was active in St. John’s Portuguese Club & The Empire of the Holy Ghost.  He was also a member of the American Legion Post of Middleton, & the Sportsmens’ Club of East Boston.  He leaves his beloved wife of 59 years, Theresa M. (Poto) Meads.  He is the cherished father of Gary J. Meads of Revere, Mark M. Meads (the proprietor of Rapid Flow Inc.) & his wife Roberta of Middleton.  He is the devoted “Papa Stanley” to Amanda M. Meads & her companion Nicholas Nazzaro of Tewksbury, & Mark A. Meads of Middleton.  He is the dear brother of Manuel F. Meads of Longwood, Florida, Theresa Merino of Peabody, & the late: Mary E. Burns, Ernest L. & Anthony J. Meads.  He is also lovingly survived by his sister-in-law, Philomena “Philly” Meads of East Boston, & many nieces & nephews.  Interment is private.  In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the VA Medical Center, Attn: Spinal Cord Clinic, 1400 VFW Parkway, West Roxbury, MA 02132.

James J. “Potsie” Geary

Family & friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Monday, August 18th, 2014 from 4 – 8 p.m. in the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107), Revere, for James J. “Potsie” Geary, who died unexpectedly on Thursday, August 14th at his Lynnfield residence, at 70 years.  His funeral will be conducted from the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 19th, followed by a Funeral Mass in the Immaculate Conception Church (corner of Beach St. & Winthrop Ave.), Revere, at 10:30 a.m.  Interment will be private.  Born in Chelsea, he was raised in Revere, educated there, & was a 1962 alumnus of Immaculate Conception High School, Revere.  His association with the Boston Globe began as a young boy, as a “newsboy.”  Upon graduation from I.C.C.H.S., he entered the work force at the Boston Globe, remaining there until he retired with over 50 years of combined service.  He retired as a Supervisor of the Computer Division.  Jim was a member of the Quarter Century Club at the Globe, & looked forward to the annual banquets.  While at the Globe, he became very involved with “Globe Santa.”  Perhaps the greatest achievement of his career & retirement was his continued portrayal as the “Globe Santa.”  Even after his retirement in 2007, he never forfeited the opportunity to continue with the joy as “Globe Santa.”  Jim was also a longtime member of the Revere Knights of Columbus #179.  He was the husband of the late Elizabeth A. “Betsey” (Calhoun) Geary, who died on August 6, 2010.  He is the devoted father of Suzanne Landry & her husband Mark D. of Rowley, MA.  He is the proud & cherished grandfather of: Alyssa V., Krista M., Mark D., Jr., Sean A., & Madison D. Landry, all of Rowley, MA.  He is also lovingly survived by his aunt, Eileen M. (Stuart) Lewey of North Falmouth, formerly of Revere, & his sister-in-law, Suzanne “Sue” Allen of Reading, & several cousins, nieces, nephews, & a host of extended family, friends, & colleagues.  He was the son of the late Regional Accounts Manager for Sunshine Biscuit, James W. Arthur L. “Artie” Adamson, Jr.

Family & friends are invited to attend a Memorial Funeral Mass on Wednesday, August 20th, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Church (corner of Beach St. & Winthrop Ave.), Revere, for Arthur L. “Artie” Adamson, Jr., who died on Tuesday, August 12th following a lengthy illness at Golden Living Center of West Newton, at 60 years.  Following the funeral mass, interment will follow at the family lot at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.  Born in Winthrop, he lived all of his life in Revere, graduating from Revere High School, Class of 1971.  Most of his working career was in the family business as a construction laborer.  “Adamson Construction & Heavy Equipment” continues to operate, led by “Artie’s” only brother, Randy Adamson.  He is the beloved son of Eva M. (Sargent) Adamson of Revere, & the late Arthur L. Adamson, Sr.  He is the husband of Lorraine (King) Adamson, the cherished father of Jennifer A., & the proud & devoted grandfather of Noah, Nicolete, & Olivia Adamson, all of Revere.  He is the dear brother of Randy J. Russell A. Carver

Private services & interment at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett, were held for Russell Andrew Carver, who died at the Somerville Hospital, Somerville, on Saturday, August 9th, 2014 following a long illness, at 72 years.  A victim of diabetes mellitus, he was a double-amputee for the past seven years.  He retired from the United States Postal Service in 1999, after 20 years of service at South Postal Annex as a mail clerk.  Born & raised in Somerville, he attended schools there & was a 1959 graduate of Somerville High School.  Russell entered the United States Navy in January of 1961 & served until January of 1965.  He was a veteran of the Viet-Nam era.  He was a member of the VFW Post of Somerville, & a lifelong Somerville resident.  He was the beloved son of the late, Russell F. Carver & Frances A. (Crawford) Carver.  He is survived by his twin sister, Rosalind F. Bossi of Revere, & his brother, Bruce Carver & his wife Cathy of Mystic, Connecticut.  He is also lovingly survived by several nieces & nephews.  Remembrances may be made to the New England Shelter for Homeless Veterans, 17 Court St., Boston, MA 02108.

Family & friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, August 7th, 2014 from 4 – 7 p.m. in the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107), Revere, for Franklin J. “Al” Nolan, who died on Saturday, August 2nd at the Chelsea Jewish Nursing Home of Chelsea, following a lengthy illness, at 88 years.  His funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Friday, August 8th at 9:30 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in the Immaculate Conception Church (corner of Beach St. & Winthrop Ave.), Revere, at 10:30 a.m.  Born & raised in Chelsea, he came to live in Revere over 60 years ago.  “Al” retired from the United States Postal Service in 1990, as a Mail Carrier in Medford.  He was a member of the Retired Postal Workers Union.  He was a graduate of St. Rose Catholic High School of Chelsea in 1944.  Immediately following graduation, he entered the United States Navy in June of 1944 & served as a Radioman 3rd Class until June of 1946.  He is a World War II veteran.  He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Margaret J. (Donovan) Nolan.  He is the dear brother of Robert Nolan of Kansas City, Missouri, & the late: John W. Nolan, Joseph R. “Ritchie” Nolan, Claire F. Nolan, & Eleanor Baczewski.  He is also lovingly survived by his sister-in-law, Mary K. “Kay” Nolan of South Weymouth, his brother-in-law, Retired Revere Fire Lieutenant Anthony V. Pesce, Sr. of Revere, & many dedicated & faithful nieces, nephews, grand-nieces & grand-nephews.  Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.

Family & friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, August 10th, 2014 from 4 – 8 p.m. in the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107), Revere, for Antoinette L. (Brienza) Sorrentino, who passed following a brief illness on Saturday, August 2nd at her Revere residence, at 90 years.  Her funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Monday, August 11th at 9:30 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in the Immaculate Conception Church (corner of Beach St. & Winthrop Ave.), Revere, at 10:30 a.m.  Born & raised in New Bedford, she attended school there & was an alumna of New Bedford High School, Class of 1942, & also graduated from Campbell Secretarial Junior College in 1944.  She was also an alumna of Holy Name Grammar School of New Bedford, Class of 1938.  “Ann,” as she was affectionately known, worked as a Principal Clerk for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, within the Division of Personnel & Administrative Services in Boston, & retired in the mid-1980’s.  She had over 15 years of service.  Ann was a devotee of Immaculate Conception Parish for over 50 years.  She was a staunch Catholic, & enjoyed her faith & liturgy immensely.  She was a member of the Massachusetts State Municipal Retired Employees Association.  After her marriage to Nunzio “Sonny” Sorrentino in 1946, they moved to the Bronx, New York, for 14 years.  In 1960, she moved to Revere & raised her 3 children.  Ann was a remarkable person of strength & dignity.  She continued to be most active in politics, & volunteering at her Parish Church.  An amazing “walker,” even at 89 years, she would be seen walking at a “crisp clip.”  Often, friends & neighbors would stop to offer a ride & she would decline by responding, “Thank you, thank you, but I need the exercise, God bless you for offering.”  Her husband passed in June of 1988.  She is the cherished mother of: Nancy B. Davis of West Wareham, MA, Linda M. Sorrentino of Revere, & the late Carmine D. Sorrentino.  She is the dear sister of Linda B. Ohnesorge of New Bedford, & the late: Domenica M. Mello & Antonia Brienza.  She is the devoted aunt of Leonard Mello of New Bedford, & several other nieces & nephews, & several cousins in the New Bedford area.  Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, New Bedford.  In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Salvation Army (Chelsea Citadel), 258 Chestnut St., Chelsea, MA 02150.

Brendan T. Kirby

Brendan T. Kirby, a lifelong Revere resident, died following a long illness at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital, Melrose, on Sunday, July 27th, at 69 years.  Born & raised in Revere, he was a 1963 alumnus of Revere High School.  Brendan was a postal worker at South Postal Annex for over 15 years, before retiring.  He is a member of the National Association of Postal Workers.  He was the son of the late, Robert E. & Pauline E. (Tighe) Kirby.  He is the  beloved brother of Paula C. Martin & her husband William J., & Dorothy F. Foley & her husband Gerald, all of Revere.  He is the dear uncle to: Anne C. Belliveau & her late husband, David M. Belliveau of Revere, Patrick M. Foley of Chelsea, Paul R. Foley of Malden, & Robert J. Martin & his wife Julie of Saugus.  Also lovingly survived by is grand-niece, Catherine A. Belliveau, & his grand-nephew, Liam J. Murray, who died following a brief illness on Sunday, July 27th at Boston’s Beth-Israel Deaconess Medical Center, at 54 years.  Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.  Born & raised in North Reading, he was a 1978 alumnus of North Reading High School.  For the past 20 years, “Tommy” was working for the City of Everett, Department of Public Works & City Services, as a Licensed Heavy Equipment Operator.  During his tenure with the City of Everett, he also worked within the work force at Glenwood Cemetery as a laborer & heavy equipment operator.  His memberships include Local 25 of the International Union of Craftsmen & Laborers, & the Carmen A. Schiavo Mens Social Club of Everett.  Throughout his life, he was an avid sports fan, especially the Boston Red Sox.  His enthusiasm for sports events is legendary.  Tommy was also passionate about any “Autism” fundraising, & took part actively in marathons & walks.  He also was a volunteer for “My Brother’s Table” of Lynn.  He is the beloved husband of 26 years to Rosemary (Gaeta) Murray, & the devoted father to: Kathryn R. & Rachel C. Murray, both of Revere, & the late Matthew T. Murray.  He is the dear son of Paul V. Murray of Edisto Island, South Carolina, & the late Evelyn M. (D’Eon) Murray.  He is also the cherished brother of Joseph N. Murray of Edisto Island, SC, Margaret L. Murray of North Reading, Paula M. Frew of Methuen, Nelson J. Murray of Wilmington, his twin sister Rose McCann & her husband James of Manchester, NH, & the late James R. (Aideuis) Marks, who died following a brief illness on Saturday, July 26th at her daughter’s Lynnfield home, at 73 years.  The funeral service will be held in the funeral home following the visitation, at 11 a.m.  Mrs. Marks was born in Cambridge & lived there until coming to Revere over 50 years ago.  She married Donald L. Marks, & he passed on March 23rd, 2014.  She is the devoted mother of: Brenda J. Kelly & her husband John T. “Jake,” Donald L. Marks, Jr. & his wife Maria, all of Lynnfield, & the late William C. Marks.  She is the cherished grandmother of: Matthew R. & Lauren E. Kelly, & Austin H. & Olivia M. Marks, all of Lynnfield, & the late Hunter J. Marks.  She is the dear sister to Marion Maldonaldo of Malden, Janet Palen & her husband David of Medford, Richard Aideuis & his wife Theresa of Cambridge, & Leonard Aideuis of Newton, & the late John Aideuis.  She is also lovingly survived by her sister-in-law, Dorothy L.
