Mario D. Maniscalco

Family & friends are invited to attend a Graveside Service on Tuesday, July 9th at 12 noon at Oak Grove Cemetery, 230 Playstead Rd., Medford for Mario D. Maniscalco, who died on Thursday, July 4th at the Kindred Transitional Care & Rehabilitation Center of Saugus, following a brief illness.  Born & raised in Medford, he was a 1947 alumnus of Medford High School.  He entered the U.S. Marines during the Korean Conflict in December of 1951 & served until December of 1953.  He spent most of his working career as a commercial fisherman.  He also was an accomplished carpenter & worked at that trade as well.  He was a long time member of the Saugus VFW Post #2346 & the Saugus Lodge of Elks.  He was the Son of the late Vito & Anna (Catanzaro) Maniscalco.  He is the beloved brother of Gussie Giara of Billerica & the late Jospeh P. & Vincent “Jimmy” Maniscalco.  He is the dear uncle to, Virginia M. Cantone & her husband Philip V. & their sons, Michael P. all of Revere & Lt. Matthew V. Cantone & his wife  Nicole of Hawaii & several other nieces & nephews, grand nieces & grand nephews.  For the past five years, Mario made his home with his niece Virginia & her family.  Before moving to Revere, he had resided in Everett for 20 years.  In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to: New England Shelter for Homeless Veterans, 17 Court St., Boston, MA 02108

Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Monday, July 8th, in the Vertuccio and Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107), Revere for Lena I. (Falzarano) Buttiglieri, who died Tuesday, July 2nd at Hathorne Hill Rehabilitation and Nursing Center of Danvers, Following a long Illness.  Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m.  in the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Anthony of padua Church, Revere at 12 noon, followed by interment in Puritan lawn Memorial Cemetery, West Peabody.  Born in Boston, she was a native of Chelsea, attending school in Chelsea and living there until moving to Revere, briefly and then in 1955 moving to Beverly. Most of her life was spent as a devoted spouse and mother.   She was an accomplished seamstress and worked in that industry throughout her working career.  She was the wife of the late, Frank R. Buttiglieri, Jr., who died January of 1982.  She is the cherished mother of, Theresa M. Buttiglieri of Beverly and Frank R. Buttiglieri , III and his wife Patricia of Beverly Farms.  She is the dear sister of Joanne Dobson of Oakland, CA, Regina Falzarano of West Peabody and the Late Frank B. “Gypsy Joe” Falzarano, Louise Faretra,  Rose Ciampolillo, and Marie “Chickie” Faretra.  She is also lovingly survived by her grandchildren, Deborah Lennon and her husband Patrick of Feeding Hills, MA and Frank R. Buttiglieri, IV of Beverly Farms.  Also survived by many devoted nieces and nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.  The Falzarano family of Chelsea are best remembered, associated with “Rita’s Flower SHoppe” of Broadway, Chelsea for over 50 years.  Lena’s mother, Rita (Terino) Falzarano was the founder and designer.  Rita’s only son, the late Frank B. “Gypsy Joe” Falzarano and his wife late wife Phyllis, took over the business and continued until the early1990’s.  In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be mad to: St. Jude’s Children’s Resaerch Hopsital, P.O. Family & friends are invited to visit with the family on Thursday, June 27th, 2013 in the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107), Revere, beginning at 9:30 a.m. for Rose (Polia) Cali, who died on Tuesday, June 25th at the Glenridge Nursing & Care Center of Medford following a long illness.  A funeral mass  will follow the visitation at 12 Noon in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 250 Revere St., Revere.  Born & raised in Somerville, she attended schools there before moving to East Boston as a young girl.  She lived in East Boston for many years until moving to  Revere in 1959, where she & her family remained until 1997.  She then moved to Malden & remained there until her death.  She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother & great-grandmother.  She is the cherished wife of 67 years to Frank S. Cali & the devoted mother of Vincent A. “Jimmy” Cali & his wife Paula B. of Peabody (formerly of Revere), & Antoinette “Ann” Moody & her husband Timothy of Wakefield.  She is the adored grandmother to, Mary Rose Burrows & her husband Brian of Dover, NH, Kristen R. Cali of  Revere, Timothy Moody, III & his wife Deborah of NH, Kerri A. Hurley & her husband Jason of Revere, Brian V. Cali & his wife Roxanne of Templeton and Dawn Moody of Malden.  Fourteen Great-Grandchildren survive her.  Interment at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett will be held privately. Family & friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Monday, June 17th, 2013 from 4 – 8 p.m. in the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Rt. 107)  for Anthony J. Bonanno, who died on Thursday, June 13th unexpectedly at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, at 92 years.  The Funeral will be conducted from the Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 18th at 9 a.m., followed by a funeral service in the Funeral Home at 10 a.m.  Mr. Bonanno suffered a fall on Wednesday, June 12th in his Revere home & was rushed to Mass General Hospital, where he passed.  Born in Boston’s North End, he attended schools in Boston & entered the United States Army on Christmas Eve of 1942 & served until January of 1946.  He fought in the Bismarck, Archipelago & Luzon Battles, & was the recipient of the Asiatic – Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, The Philippine Liberation Ribbon, The Good Conduct & The Victory Medals.  For many years, he worked for American Chemical of South Boston, as a chemist and supervisor.   He retired in 1990.  His memberships include: The Revere Patriots Club, & The Holy Name Society of St. Anthony’s Parish.  He is the beloved & devoted husband of  66 years to Otillia “Tillie”  (Fernandez) Bonanno & the cherished father of Anthony G. Bonanno & his wife Jane (Flynn) Bonanno of Topsfield.  He is the cherished Uncle & surrogate Grandfather to Diane G. Hyland & her husband Francis W. Hyland, Jr. of Revere & their daughters, Kelli Hyland of Revere & Kim Perry & her husband Vance of Marblehead.  He is also lovingly survived by many other nieces, nephews, grand-nieces & grand-nephews.  He is the Dear brother to the late Concetta “Connie” Avolio.  He was affectionately known as “St. Anthony” to his friends & neighbors because of his selfless spirit of giving & caring.  He returned home to God on June 13th, The Feast of St. Anthony, his patron.  A pro burial mass will be celebrated at St. Anthony of Padua Church of Revere at a date & time to be announced.  Interment will be in the family lot at St. Michael Cemetery, Boston.  In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to: The American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701-4688.

Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, June 9th, 2013 from 2 – 6 p.m. in the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107) , Revere, for Vincent J. Crivello, who died at his Revere home on Wednesday, June 5th after a lengthy illness, at 97 years.  The funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Monday, June 10th at 9:30 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in the Immaculate Conception Church (corner of Beach St. & Winthrop Ave.), Revere at 10:30 a.m.  Born & raised in Revere, he is a 1934 alumnus of Revere High School.   In school, his musical talent was also noted as a saxophone solist for the school band. He also played professionally and  he continued to play the saxophone for family affairs.  Most of his working career was spent as a Technical Engineer for G.E. of West Lynn, retiring in 1978.  For many years, “Vinnie” was involved with his wife’s family food market, DeLuca’s Market on Beach St., Revere.  The market closed in 2010, after 84 years of service to the community.  There his labors were many & varied,  attending to customers, acting as a delivery person, maintenance & accounting.  In February of 2013, he and his wife, Theresa J. (DeLuca) Crivello, celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary.  Their union is legendary, almost storybook-like, in the aspects of their happiness, devotion to one another & their respect for their entire family.  The couple were parishioners of the Immaculate Conception Community Parish Family, all of their lives, which was instilled in them by both families, the Crivello’s & DeLuca’s.  Their generosity is marked & Vinnie was a dedicated member of the Usher team, a Eucharistic Minister & a member of the Holy Name Society.  He is the cherished father of, Vincent Crivello & his wife Marie E. of Revere, Janet M. Pletcher & her husband Stephen D. of Prides Crossing, & Marilyn J. Kobus & her husband Anton H. of Manchester by the Sea, MA.  He is the Adored Grandfather to: Patricia M. Bright & her husband Ronald of Melrose, Diane L. Perry & her husband Richard of Peabody, Brian T. Pletcher & his wife Kellian of Somerville, Marisa L. & Philip A. Kobus both of Manchester by the Sea.  He is also lovingly survived by four Great-Grandchildren: Lindsay, Cory, Brandon, & Dillon.  He was the brother of the late: Salvatore “Sully” Crivello, Anthony & Frederick Crivello, Martha Raftery, Marie Bruno, & Rita Rogers.  Many faithful nieces, nephews, grand-nieces & grand-nephews also survive him.  Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.  In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Friday, May 17th at the Vertuccio and Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107) Revere, from 4 to 8 p.m., for Linda (Marco) Golding, who died unexpectedly on Tuesday evening, May 14th at the Whidden Memorial Hospital, Everett,MA.  Her funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Saturday, May 18th at 9:30 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in the Immaculate Conception Church (Corner of Beach St. & Winthrop Ave.) Revere at 10:30 a.m., followed by interment in Puritan Lawn Memorial cemetery, Peabody,MA.  Born and raised in Revere, she was a 1938 Alumna of Revere High School.  She lived her entire life in Revere and worked for Market Forge of Everett, for 35 years, before retiring in 1995.  She was an accountant for the firm and also supervised the Employees Credit Union for many years.  Market Forge took part in the “Junior Achievement” Program, which allowed young men and women to learn on the job experience, within a certain field of interest, particular to the company.  Linda ran and operated this program for over 20 years.  According to a present day long – time employee, Linda was much loved and respected during her tenure at Market Forge.  She is still fondly remembered by many, after nearly 18 years of retirement.  She is the wife of the late Robert B. Golding who died June of 1981.  She is the devoted mother of  Carol J. Landry & her husband James of Haverhill,  Robert C. Golding of Revere and Gail A. Landry & her husband Joseph of Chelmsford.  She is the cherished grandmother of Jason M. Landry 7 his wife Anne of Boston,  Jamie R. Landry & his wife Monique  and Jeremy P. Landry of Haverill and Robert “BJ” Landry of Chelmsford.  She is also lovingly survived by her Great Granddaughter Nora J. Nichols, who died on Tuesday, May 7th at the Kaplan Family Hospice of Danvers, following a long illness.  His funeral will be conducted from the Funeral Home on Saturday, May 11th at 9:30 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in Immaculate Conception Church, Revere at 10:30 a.m.  Born & raised in Boston, he moved to Revere as a young man and spent 41 years in Revere, before moving to Winthrop, 13 years ago.  Most of  his working career was as a laborer with the Laborers International Union – Local #22 of Malden.  He retired at 65 years of age.  He & his late wife, Jean E. (Meaney) Nichols, who died in February of 2008, were both active members of the former St. Anthony’s Band, Revere for several years.  Both he & his wife each shared the role as “Band Manager”.  He was a member of the Winthrop Lodge of Elks #1078.  He is the devoted father of: Paul E. Nichols & his wife Linda of Everett, David J. Nichols & his wife Daphne of Littleton and Brian G. Nichols & his wife Nicole of Swampscott.  He is the cherished grandfather of: Ryan P., Kelly L., Mary Catherine Nichols, Sydney E., Camron M., Vienna M. & Garret B. William Vincent “Vin” Monagle, Sr.

Family & friends are invited to attend the visiting hours on Friday, March 22nd from 3 to 7 p.m., in the Vertuccio and Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107) Revere for William Vincent “Vin” Monagle, who died Tuesday evening, March 19th at his Revere Home, surrounded by the peace, joy & love of his family, following a long illness.  His funeral will be conducted from the Funeral Home  on Saturday, March 23rd at 9:30 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in the Immaculate Conception Church ( corner of Beach ST. & Winthrop Ave.) Revere at 10:30 a.m..  Born in Medford, he attended St. Clement’s School & High School and was a 1944 alumnus of St. Clement’s High School.  In November of 1944, he joined the United States Navy and served until July of 1946 and discharged  as a Seaman 1st Class.  He began his career with the Revere Fire Department in 1955 and served the City of Revere for over 35 years, retiring in 1990.  Like so many of his fellow colleagues, “Vin” represented a quickly vanishing generation of Men, who dedicated their lives to their God, their family and to their chosen vocation in life. It is a well known and respected fact , that the Revere Fire Department displayed at all times, a unique bondness and quiet dignity about the execution of their duties, especially in times of crisis.  “Vin” was all about, quiet dignity and self-less energy in his chosen field.  On many occasions, within the City of Revere, he along with his colleagues, were present to quell the tragedy of fire.  Most often, when firefighters leave their homes, they have no idea as too when or if they will return!  Knowing this is true testimony of the character and integrity of the individual, at hand.  After retirement from the Fire Department, “Vin” worked for the well respected and loved Giannino Family, working their greenhouses and as a delivery person.  His superb knowledge of geography of the City of Revere made him an invaluable asset to the Giannino Family and their greenhouses.  He leaves his beloved & faithful wife of 62 years, Mary Theresa “Tess” (Cunningham) Monagle.  He is the devoted father of, William V. Monagle, Jr. & his wife Marji of Lynnfield,  Neal P. Monagle of Medford, Gavin P. Monagle & his wife, Janet of Middleton and Amy T. Monagle of Revere.  He is the cherished grandfather of, Patrick W. Monagle & his wife Marissa of Reading,  Bridget A. Monagle of Lynnfield,  Gavin F., Daniel F., & Kaleigh F. Monagle all of Middleton.  He is the dear brother of Ana McGonagle of Roslindale, Mary Barry of West Somerville & the late John, Infant Mary, Catherine MacDonald, Charles, James, Patrick Monagle and Maguerite Rowe.  He is also lovingly survived by his great grand daughter, Grace E. Monagle of Reading, his cousin , Charles McLaughlin & his wife, Mary of Milton and 54 treasured nieces and nephews.  Internment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.  “Vin” lived almost 60 years here in Revere. He was a longtime member of the Revere Council Knights of Columbus #179 and the Revere Fire Department’s many & varied charitable endeavors.  In lieu of flowers: Remembrances may be made to the Restoration Fund at Immaculate Conception Parish, 22 Lowe ST. Murphy, Jr., who died on Thursday, January 17th at Golden Living-Elmhurst, following a long illness, at 92 years.  Family & friends are invited to attend the funeral from the funeral home on Wednesday, January 23rd at 9 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Lynnfield at 10 a.m.  Born & raised in Somerville, he was a 1938 alumnus of Somerville High School.  He also attended Boston University.  Mr. Murphy joined the United States Navy in September of 1942 & served until March of 1946.  Most of his working career was spent with the Army Corps of Engineers, as a Property Manager.  Mr. Murphy held a Massachusetts Real Estate Broker’s License & worked within the industry for over 20 years.  He was a principal in the firm of “Mallard, Moriarty & Murphy” of the North Shore, & worked until his late seventies.  The family lived in Revere for over 50 years, moving to Lynnfield in 1996.  He was a long-time member of the Revere Council, Knights of Columbus #179 & the Lynnfield Seniors.  Both he & his wife were devotees of Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Lynnfield & were both Eucharistic Ministers at the Church.  He is the beloved & faithful husband of 62 years to Catherine F. (Countie).  The couple would have celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary this Sunday (January 20th).  He is the devoted father of, Joan M. Marks & her husband, Peter W. of Winthrop, Anne M. Russell of West Peabody & Thomas J. Murphy, III of Natick, & the late, Karen M. Zappala.  He is the Cherished Grandfather to: Meredith Cooke & her husband James Cooke, Jonathan & Ashley Marks all of Winthrop, Kevin Russell of Stoneham, Matt Russell of Los Angeles, California, Shannon Russell of Reading, Brittany Zappala-Acciavatti & her husband, Thomas & Miss Alex Zappala, all of Lynnfield, & Coleman Murphy of Paris, France.  He was also the Brother of the late, Rita Zappelli, & is also lovingly survived by many nieces & nephews, grand-nieces & grand-nephews.  Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery of Lynnfield.  In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the: New England Shelter for Homeless Veterans, 17 Court St., Boston, MA 02108.

We feel blessed that with all of the interest, the Vazza Family chose us to carry on their century old business and family name. We will become Vertuccio Smith & Vazza, Beechwood Home for Funerals. We will continue to honor the Vazza name and continue our commitment the same way that we always have. We also look forward to having both Louis Vazza and Jessica Vazza Ferragamo alongside of us, as we come together as one.
Our reputation has always been our biggest asset. For many years people always wanted us to have a larger facility, now our facility is the largest funeral home in the area. We will be making many beautiful upgrades to allow our families to have the most elegant facility to honor their loved one.
Although this announcement is bittersweet, as we say goodbye to our home, we are forever grateful for all of you for placing your constant faith and trust in us to care for your loved one. We will continue to do what we are best known for.

We would like to announce that after 37 years of caring for thousands of families at our 773 Broadway location, on January 31st, 2023 we will be officially RELOCATING, to our new location at 262 Beach St., Revere.

On September 30th, 2022, we proudly purchased the Vazza “Beechwood” Funeral Home – DiPietro and Vazza, Inc. A name that has served families for 102 years.
