Mary D. (Corbett) Cartwright

Revere from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., for Mary D. (Corbett) Cartwright, who passed after a brief illness in her Derry, N.H. residence on Monday, November 6th. Her funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Saturday, November 11th at 10:30 a.m., followed by a funeral mass in the Immaculate Conception Church (Corner of Beach St. & Winthrop Ave.), Revere at 11 :30 a.m. & immediately to be followed by interment in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. This was the second death, the Corbett family has had to endure in eleven days. On Monday, November 6th, one of Mary’s first cousins, Margaret A. “Peggy” Long’s funeral mass was celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church.
Born & raised in Revere, Mary was one of six (6) children born to the late Francis A. & Mary Doris (Anderson) Corbett. Mary was a graduate of Immaculate Conception Grammar School and an alumna of the Immaculate Conception High School, Class of 1962, Revere. She was a 10 year member of the Immaculate Conception Reveries Drum & Bugle Corps., a time in Mary’s life, where her many talents would show themselves. She held many part-time positions at restaurants and the mercantile industry. In 1987, she sought a position with Fidelity Investments & with her talents & work ethic, she quickly rose to Assistant Vice President of Operations, as well manager. She maintained her position until retiring in 1997. Still young and full of ambition, she sought entrance into the work force at Chelsea Clock performing the same type of skills as Operations Manager. Her beloved husband of almost 50 years, Edward F. Cartwright, Jr., died unexpectedly on June 25, 2011. In 2013, she relocated & moved with her son, Ronald to Derry, N.H. She was most happy with the move & although her love for the city was strong, the distance was not an impediment.

Cartwright & his wife Alicia of Derry, N.H. Dear sister of Ellen Medeiros & her husband Robert, Anne M. Slaney & her husband Retired Revere Fire Cpt. George Slaney, all of Londonderry, N.H., Kathleen Corbett & her partner Pasquale DeFeo, Francis G. Corbett & his wife Kathleen, all of Revere and the late Phillip Corbett. She is also the adored grandmother of Alyssa Clark-Cartwright of Hampton, N.H., Mary Casey Cartwright & Andrew Cartwright, both of No. Kingstown, Rhode Island, Ronald Cartwright of Acton, Maine, Alex Cartwright of Derry, N.H., Robbie & Matthew Cartwright, both of Plaistow, N.H., Jaysun Blasko & his wife Katie & Lillian Blasko, all of Chickopee, Ma. Also lovingly survived by her uncle Atty. Ronald P. Corbett, Esq. of Revere & many proud nieces & nephews.

Selvitella, who passed unexpectedly at his Revere residence on Wednesday, November 1st, the Feast of All Saints, at 87 years. His funeral will be conducted from the Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 7th at 10 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 250 Revere St., Revere, at 11 a.m., immediately followed by interment in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
“Vinny” was born & raised in Revere, & was a member of the Class of 1948, Revere High School. He entered the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, on September 11th, 1952, & served until August 27th, 1954, as a Corporal. After discharge, he began a career with the Airlines, serving first at Sky Chef & then transferring to American Airlines, where he spent over 40 years as a Supervisor in Air Freight. He was an active & generous member of the St. Anthony’s Parish Community. For over 25 years, every week he would bring to St. Anthony’s Church a large food basket for the benefit of the poor of the Parish. Often another smaller basket would accompany his weekly offering for the Priests at the Rectory. During the fine weather & into early Fall, the basket would be principally composed of fresh vegetables & fruits, grown from his mammoth home garden on Rumney Road. All of this was done quietly & unobtrusively, in memory of his dear wife, parents, & brother. His tastes were simple, & love of family was paramount. His legacy is a continued love & generosity to his family.
He was the beloved son of the late, Antonio & Carmella (Caggiano) Selvitella. He was the brother of the late Nicholas & his wife, the late Anne A. Selvitella. He was the husband to the late Sandra C. (Ippolito) Selvitella, who passed 30 years ago as of this past May. “Sandy” was an elementary Revere School Teacher, beloved by all. He is the proud surrogate “Dad” to David J. DiMatteo & his wife Dawn of Madison, New Hampshire. He is the dear uncle to: Deborah J. Selvitella-Murphy & her husband Michael of West Palm Beach, Florida, Dr. Michael A. Selvitella & his wife Deborah A. of Bartlett, Illinois, & John N. Selvitella & wife Pamela of Goffstown, New Hampshire. He is the adored Grand-Uncle to: Nicole A. & Michael C. Selvitella, both of Bartlett, Illinois, & Chelsea R. & Anthony G. Selvitella, both of Goffstown, New Hampshire. Most proud surrogate Grandfather to: Alicia S. DiMatteo & her husband Damon of Austin, Texas, & Marisa A. Schoen & her husband Josh of Glen, New Hampshire. He is also lovingly survived by his surrogate Great-Granddaughter, Avery Mae Schoen.

(Griffin) Corbett.The Corbett family were pioneers in the settling of the Immaculate Conception Parish Community beginning with its inception, in 1888. The patriarch of the family, “Peggy’s uncle, Atty. Ronald P. Corbett, Esq. still lives in Revere. She has worked for North Shore Bus Co. and Healey Bus, Inc. for over 29 years. Her service, not only historic but did continue until her last illness. She is the wife of the late Byron S. Long, Sr. She is the proud mother of, Claire M. McNair & her husband, Patrick E. of Revere, Kellie C. Long & her husband, Justin O’Roach of Milford, N.H.& the late, Byron S. Long, Jr. She is the cherished Grandmother of Autumn J. Long of Salem, N.H., Bentley W. Long of Haverhill, Christena Dedrick & Patrick E. McNair, Jr., & Brody R. McNair, all of Revere & Paige L. Long & Logan K. Roach both of Milford, N.H. Born & raised in Revere, he was a popular youth, enjoying the office of Class President of his Graduating Class (1948) of Revere High School. Most of his working career, was spent with the airlines at Logan Airport, beginning with Alleghenany Airlines, until they were taken over by U.S. Air. His specialty was Aircraft Mechanics. Ben’s wife (the love of his life) Mary E. (Meuse) Abbene passed in July of 2000.
He is the devoted father to Elena M. Oliva & her husband, Nicholas of Litchfield, NH., Benjamin J. Abbene & his wife, Lorraine P. of East Weymouth, Lauren T. Born in Oklahoma, Carol came to live in Revere as a young girl, graduating from Revere High School, Class of 1972. She would enter the Chelsea Soldiers Home School of Nursing & completed her education in 1976. Twenty-eight years ago, she began her career, at the Chelsea Soldiers Home, working until her untimely death. Carol always worked the night shift, and thrived on the schedule and the incessant drive. She was a Beacon to many and a mentor to so very many nursing students. Carol enjoyed an unusual relationship with her colleagues. Not only was she highly respected, but her presence was sought after socially as well as professionally. No commentary would be complete without mention to the simpatico she shared with her patients and their families. It is most evident that Chelsea Soldiers Home will long mourn Carol’s passing.
She is the beloved wife of 40 years & best friend to Steven DiGiovanni. Daughter of the late Lt. Col. Thomas J. Girkout Jr.& Stella (Carpinto) Girkout. She is also the sister of the late Thomas J. Girkout, III and the cherished sister-in-law of Nicholas J. DiGiovanni & his wife, Georgette of No. Reading, & Jamie Clabaugh & her late husband, Michael of Everett. She is the dear aunt to Adam N. Intraversato, who died on Thursday, October 26th following a two year courageous conflict with Primary Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma of the Central Nervous System at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading. Following the visitation, a Memorial Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 250 Revere St., REVERE at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be held privately.
A native East Bostonian, he lived there & was an attendee of the former Sacred Heart Grammar School, graduating in 1960. He was an alumnus of Boston College High School, Class of 1964. David continued his education at Northeastern University with the class of 1968, graduating in 1968 with a degree in Education and Counseling. David then settled on the South Shore in Abington, where he would become most active socially and academically. For a number of years, he was a baseball coach with the Abington Little League. Socially he was an active member with the Abington Knights of Columbus. He returned to East Boston to care for his Dad when his Mom died in 1997, and subsequently remained there until after his Dad’s death in the winter of 1999, when he moved to Revere. Most of his working career was spent as a Union Shop Steward with the Department of Employment Security for at least 25 years, retiring in 2008. Concurrently with his civil service appointment, he was a Licensed Real Estate Broker, managing & purchasing older homes and properties.
He is the beloved husband of eight (8) years to Margaret A. “Peggy” (DeFronzo) Vitale-Intraversato of Revere. He is also the devoted Dad to Gina M. Intraversato of Marshfield, David A. lntraversato & his wife, Alexandra of Freeport, Maine & Dena Vitale-Coffey & her husband, Joseph of Revere. He is the cherished Grandfather to Carly M., Nicholas D., Grace L., Francesca R. & Michael P.

Anne was born & raised in East Boston, taking her elementary schooling at the former Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Grammar School, East Boston. She then attended the Julie Billiart Catholic High School for Girls in Boston’s North End, graduating in 1976. In the late 70s, she began a job with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, working in several departments for the next thirty-eight (38) years, settling about 30 years ago as Project Manager within the Division of Information & Technology. Anne maintained a close relationship with her former colleagues after retiring in 2015. She is a member of NAGE (National Association of Government Employees). For over 30 years she lived in Saugus & about 10 years ago, began summering at the Cape, particularly in Eastham. For several years, she and her devoted wife of 23 years, Linda A. Stiles were wintering in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Along with Linda, she traveled often throughout the country and visiting Italy. In 2016, Anne chaired & orchestrated a superb 40th High School Class Reunion. It had been the only reunion, for the Class of 1976, offered. It was a huge success, deemed mostly by the tremendous work effort afforded by Anne.
Anne was the beloved daughter of the late Daniel & Josephine (Geraci) Gioiosa of East Boston. She is the cherished sister to Charles Gioiosa & his wife Barbara Brainin of Seattle, Wash., Denise A. Giangregorio & her husband, Alan of Winthrop, John Gioiosa & his wife, Mary of Malden & the late Anthony & Marie Gioiosa. She is also lovingly survived by Renee A. Parente of Dorchester, Brian L. Born & raised in Revere, he was a 1985 alumnus of Revere High School. All of Frank’s working career, was spent in the construction business, particularly as a Sales Representative within the vast home exteriors supply construction industry. Frank would want to be remembered for his love of nature & the great outdoors. He could always be found, hunting & fishing anywhere throughout New England, particularly the Western part of the state of Mass., to the Berkshires. A most generous young man, he truly enjoyed the best, his short life had to offer. Notably & most importantly, Frank’s love & tireless care for his Mom, shall never be forgotten by anyone who knew him. He was a longtime member of the National Rifle Association & the Gun Owners’ Action & Protection Organization. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted & interment will be private.

The daughter of the late Massimiliano “Max” & Archetta “Annie” (Saccardo) Tassinari, she attended St. Mary-Star of the Sea Grammar School in Orient Heights, East Boston & graduated in 1957 with honors. High school continued at Fitton’s Girl High School (Fitton Catholic Central) in East Boston & she graduated from there in 1961. She is also a 1963 alumna of Windham Secretarial School of Boston. Maxine was an active member of the former Star of the Sea Young Adult Club of East Boston from about 1963-1977. She began a career with the Commonwealth of Mass. with the Dept. of Public Utilities, after raising her family in 1983 & worked co ntinuing to 2013, when she retired. At the time she was Executive Secretary within the complex Dept. of Public Utilities as their Executive Payroll Admr. All of the time spent at the DPU, undoubtedly, Maxine held positions at the Administrative Level. She was an active member of the Fitton Alumni, forever and maintained a close relationship with many former “college” friends & former co leagues at the DPU. Along with her work she became an activist for the fight against the Logan Airport Expansion, working with members of her Dad’s (Tassinari) family; the late Emilio J. “Legs” Vertuccio & Mary Ellen Welch.
She was the beloved wife of the late Roger F. Teixeira. Cherished mother to Brian J. Teixeira of E. Boston, Carole J. Rizzo & husband John F. of Swampscott, Maria J. Votava & husband Michael of Richmond Hill, GA & Michael J. Teixeira of Taunton. Dear sister of Thomas J. Tassinari & wife Deborah, Mark J. Tassinari & wife Therese, all of East Boston & Atty. Born in Leicester Mass., he was raised there & educated there, entering the service from there in May of 1944 & serving with the U.S. Navy until April of 1946 as a Coxswain (V-6). All of his working career was spent as a Master Chef & most prominently at the Vesper Country Club of Tyngsboro for over 15 years. He retired from the Food Service Department at Wonderland Dog Track.
He is the beloved husband of 30 years to Louise M. (Cardillo) Dorr of Revere Beach Blvd., Revere. He is the devoted Father to Deborah L. Puglia of Tewksbury & James B. Dorr of Brookline. He is the cherished Grandfather to Jessica & Laura Puglia, Amanda, Claire, Ian, & Olivia Hickey. He is also lovingly survived by his only graat-grandaughter, Isabella “Izzy”. He is also survived by Louise’s children, James Hickey of Revere, John Hickey & his wife, Marie of Somerville & Gary Hickey of Wakefield. Dear brother to the late, Raymond P. Dorr, Jr., and Robert & Nancy Dorr. Many adoring & faithful nieces & nephews, also survive him. He was an active member of the Rossetti-Cowan Senior Center of Revere.
