Susan L. (Manning) Ricci

Family & friends are invited to attend Visiting Hours on Monday, May 15th from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Vertuccio and Smith, Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107) Revere for Susan L. (Manning) Ricci, who died peacefully surrounded by her loving family at her home in Everett following her year and half battle with cancer. She was just 55 years old. Her funeral will be conducted in the funeral home on Tuesday, May 16th at 10:00 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m.

Susan was born in Stoneham, raised & educated in Winthrop. She attended Winthrop Public Schools. She was married in 1981 to Liberato “Bo” Ricci, the couple resided in Winthrop where they began their family, later moving to Malden then settling for the past 10 years in Everett. Susan was a dedicated homemaker and loved her family unconditionally. Her family was the hallmark of her life and her grandchildren certainly made her days brighter. She was blessed to have experienced the joy of being a grandmother. Although her illness was just a year and half, she battled courageously and fearlessly.

She is the beloved daughter of the late John Manning & Elsie (Bateman) Manning. The devoted & loving wife of Liberato “Bo” Ricci of Everett, together shared 36 years of marriage. Cherished mother of Christopher S. Ricci, Jennifer L. DiFilippo & her husband Rennie, Andrew J. Ricci, all of Everett, Shawna L. Ricci of North Carolina & Michael J. Ricci of New Hampshire. The adored grandmother of Aydian, C.J., Gabriella, Tyler & Alexia. Dear sister of Nancy Manning of Connecticut, John Manning of Lynn, Rita Caprini of Saugus, Michael Manning of Chicago, Illinois & the late Linda Kimball. She is also lovingly survived by many nieces & nephews. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.

Domenic J. DeCristoforo

DeCristoforo who died on Thursday, May 4th at Massachusetts General Hospital following a brief illness at 90 years. A funeral will be conducted from the Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 10th at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in Immaculate Conception Church (Corner of Beach St. & Winthrop Ave.) REVERE at 10:00 a.m.

Domenic was born, raised & educated in Revere. He was an alumnus of Revere High School, Class of 1944. Domenic enlisted in the United Sates Army during the Second World War and he faithfully & honorably served his country from December 1944 to November 1946. He was married in 1953 and he and his wife remained in Revere where they raised their family together. Domenic valued education and attended Northeastern University earning a B.S. Degree in Accounting in 1953. He then began a 25 year career with Somerville Lumber as a Purchasing Agent. Domenic was a very humble man with very strong values and devotion to his faith and family. After Domenic retired, he remained active and became the Supervisor for the Senior Park & Maintenance Program in Revere. Domenic was also a member of the Finance Committee for Immaculate Conception Church & School. He was also involved with Revere Public Library & Revere Youth Center. Domenic’s warm gentle smile and most friendly personality is how most people will remember him.

He is the devoted husband of 64 years to Lorraine A. (Arsenault) DeCristoforo of Revere. He is the beloved son of the late Joseph S. & Teresa (Colella) DeCristoforo and loving father of Richard J. DeCristoforo & his wife Marie of Revere, Robert J. DeCristoforo & his late wife Lydia of Derby, KS & Marie A. Bucci & her husband Peter of Revere. Cherished grandfather of Diana J. Finn & her husband Thomas of Peabody, Daniel J. DeCristoforo & his wife Stephanie of Danvers, Sarah DeCristoforo & Elizabeth DeCristoforo, both of Derby, KS. Adored great grandfather of Emma M., Daniela M. DeCristoforo and Vivian R. Finn. Dear brother of Cynthia C. Simpson of Revere & her late husband Malcolm & Rita P. Rose M. (Leone) Mazzone

(Leone) Mazzone, who died on Thursday, May 4th at Benchmark Senior Living at Putnam Farm in Danvers, following a long illness. Her funeral will be conducted from the Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 9th at 10:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in the Immaculate Conception Church (Corner of Beach St. & Winthrop Ave.) Revere at 11:30 a.m.

Rose was raised & educated in East Boston and she was an alumna of East Boston High School, Class of 1946. Rose married Frank S. Mazzone and the couple settled in Revere, where they began their family.  Rose worked for many years as a Billing Clerk for Boston Water & Sewer. Her devotion & love for her family was her top priority. She loved being surrounded by her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Rose was always known to be a very stylish & beautiful woman, both inside & out. Rose resided in Revere for almost 50 years, her and her husband then resided in Mesa, AZ for several years, before moving back to Revere.

She is the beloved wife of the late Frank S. Mazzone with whom she shared 60 years of marriage prior to his death in 2006. She is the devoted mother of Frank S. Mazzone, Jr. & his wife Donna of Manchester by the Sea, Allesandra M. Palladino & her husband Rocco A. of West Peabody & Steven C. Mazzone of Kingwood, TX. She is the cherished grandmother of Tara A. Murphy & her husband Matthew of Revere, Jennifer DiFilippis & her husband Rocco of Kenosha, WI, Alyssa A. Morales & her husband Christopher of West Peabody, Katherine Warren & her husband Tyler of Missoula, MT, Gabriella & Christina Mazzone, both of Kingwood, TX & the late Anthony R. Palladino. Adored great grandmother of Leo, Rocco, Alessandra & Francesca. Santo J. “Sonny” Speranza

Services & interment have been held for Santo J. Speranza, formerly of Revere & presently of Topsfield, who died unexpectedly at the Holy Family Hospital at Merrimack Valley in Haverhill on Wednesday, May 3rd.

Born & raised in Chelsea, he attended Chelsea schools. He & his family moved to Revere when he was a young man. He remained in Revere until 1977, when he and his family moved to Topsfield. As a young boy, he apprenticed under his father in the fine art of plastering, an art that has somewhat been replaced by high-tech. substitutions. However, he did have a 25 year career with General Electric Company as a Master Mechanic, working within the Lynn, Everett & Medford plants. Since his beloved wife, Irene F. (Langis) Speranza, died on August 9, 2002, he became the Patriarch plus, taking on the many & varied duties of his wife. A gentleman’s gentleman, he lovingly watched over his family with tenderness & enthusiasm.

He is the devoted father of Paula J. Monaco & her fiancée Arthur Davis & Robert A. Speranza, all of Topsfield & the late John M. “Sonny” Speranza. He is the cherished Grandfather of Steven Speranza of Tyngsboro, John Speranza & his wife Nikki of Everett, Paul Monaco of Macedonia, Ohio, Gina Monaco-Lindburg & her husband Nathan Lindberg of Plastow, N.H. and the late Michael Speranza. He is the dear brother of Rose M. Lepore of Revere and the late Marion Abate, Marie Jacobs, Josephine Gentile, John Speranza & Peter J. Speranza & his faithful long-time friend, Frantz LaVaud of Newton, NH. He is also lovingly survived by his daughter in law Janet Speranza & three great grandchildren; Isabella, Stephania & Jack. Interment was held in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.

George T. “Buddy” Fraga

Services and Interment at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett, were held privately, for George T. “Buddy” Fraga, who died following a lengthy illness on Tuesday, May 2nd at Rosewood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Peabody.

Born & raised in East Boston, he was a 1939 alumnus of East Boston High School. He entered the U.S. Navy in August of 1942 and served with the rank of Boatswain’s Mate- 2nd Class until February of 1946. After returning from the war, George moved to Revere for several years, before moving to Saugus over 40 years ago. He would later pursue the construction industry & build many, many homes in the North Shore area, primarily in Saugus, Revere & Peabody.

He was married to the former, Julia L.(Della Porta) Fraga for over 69 years, until her death on February 1, 2016. He was the beloved son of the late George D. & Mary (Canty) Fraga. He was the devoted brother of the late Florence C. Fraga, John C. Fraga, & Joseph C. “Teddy” Fraga. He is also lovingly survived by his brother-in-law Joseph Della Porta & his wife, Gladys of Swampscott & the late Annettte DeCotis. He is the devoted uncle to, Philip J. Fraga & his wife, Cindy of Saugus, Douglas J. Della Porta of Revere & many other nieces & nephews.

Norma A. (Albano) Gioia

Mrs. Gioia was born & raised in Boston’s North End and attended school in Boston schools. She & her family moved to Revere over 55 years ago from Boston’s North End. For over 30 years, she worked as a Supervisory Matron for Wonderland Dog Racetrack of Revere, retiring in 1996. Norma was the quintessential Mom, Grandmother & Great-Grandmother, always enjoying her time with her family and extended family. Her late husband Frank A. Gioia, Sr. died on March 12, 1989.

She is the cherished mother of Frank A. Gioia Jr. & Ann Hanslin, both of Revere, Anthony Gioia & his wife Dianne of Peabody, Mark T. Gioia of North Salem, New Hampshire. She is the devoted grandmother to Atty. Frank J. Gioia & his wife Cristen of Los Angeles, Ca. & Moultonboro, N. H., Tanya M. Johnson of Revere, John C. Johnson & his wife Donna of Lake Worth, Florida & Anthony P. Hanslin of San Diego, Calif. She is also the dear sister of Claire-Filippone of Revere & her husband Andrew A. & the late Rose Pisano, Marie C. Luongo & William R. Albano. Also lovingly survived by her five Great-Grand-Children; Briana, Destiny, Juliana, Jessica & Jeffrey & many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces & grand-nephews. John R. Pruitt

Family & friends are invited to attend a Memorial Visitation on Friday, April 21st from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Vertuccio and Smith, Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107) Revere, for John R. Pruitt who died in his home on Tuesday, March 14th following a long illness, he was 61 years old. A Funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Saturday, April 22nd at 10:00 a.m., followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church, 993 Shirley St. Winthrop.

He was the cherished son of the late Paul R. Pruitt & Joan (Altri) Pruitt. He was the loving & devoted husband of 24 years to Former Revere School Committeewoman Donna E. (Costa) (Wood) Pruitt of Revere, also lovingly survived by her children, Kristen M. Wood of Peabody & Robert M. Wood & his wife Jennifer of North Reading. He was the proud grandfather of Olivia & Addison, they were his sun and moon. He was dear brother to his identical twin; the late Paul W. Pruitt. He is also lovingly survived by many extended family, friends, players & coaches.

John was born in Union, South Carolina, at a young age his family settled in Revere. John was educated in Revere and was an alumnus of Revere High School, Class of 1973. As a young man, he worked at Kelly’s Roast Beef on Revere Beach. He later took a position at Brigham’s Ice Cream, a career that spanned 25 years of service, until they closed the plant. He later took a position as a security officer in the Revere Public Schools for several years, until his health started to decline. People who knew John, knew that his passion was baseball. John was a dedicated member of Revere little league. He was a coach, officer & board member for over 35 years. John coached more than 500 children in his years as a coach. He loved kids and helping them to learn the game of baseball. John always took special interest in the kids who were struggling and needed a little extra help. He would foster these children, who needed a pat on the back or just a little confidence to help them with their game or just in general, John’s love for the game of baseball also allowed him to coach Babe Ruth Baseball in Revere and as well as serving as an assistant coach at St. John’s Prep in Danvers alongside his identical twin brother Paul. John was also a long-time season ticket holder of the Boston Red Sox and a collector of Red Sox & baseball memorabilia, a collection he began as a young boy. John was also a devoted Parishioner & Lector at Holy Rosary Church in Winthrop.  John was a kid at heart with his love for baseball, but he was a man with a giant heart who gave back to his community of which he loved. Interment will be private.

Francis C. “Frank” Leonard

His funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home, following the visitation at 12:15 p.m., followed by interment in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.

Born in Chelsea, he was raised & educated in Revere, graduating from Revere High School, Class of 1940. Frank joined the U.S. Army in June of 1943 and served until December 29, 1945. All of his career was spent in & around the newspaper business. Over the years Frank worked for all of the Boston Newspapers (Boston Globe, The Herald-Traveler, The Boston Post & The Record American). He retired from the Boston Globe as a Supervisor in the bundling department at 70 years of age.

He was the husband to the late Thelma F. (Trites) Leonard, who died on December 25, 1997. He is the devoted father of Muriel A. DeLuccia & her husband Paul V. of Reading & the late Frank Leonard. He is the cherished grandfather of Michelle I. Fisher & her husband David Fisher of Burlington, Christopher M. Gillis & his fiancée Lauryn Trentsch of Revere & Rory C. Gillis & his wife Jennifer of Lynnfield. He is also lovingly survived by five (5) great-grandchildren; Lacey, Spencer & Bailey Gillis, Samantha & Deacon Fisher. He was the brother of the late John “Jack” Leonard & Edward Leonard. Several nieces & nephews also survive him.

Doris M. (Fabian) McCarthy

(Fabian) McCarthy, who passed on Holy Thursday, April 13th at the Chelsea Jewish Nursing Home, unexpectedly, following a brief illness. Her funeral will be conducted from the Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 19th at 9:30 a.m. ,followed by a Funeral Mass in the Immaculate Conception Church (Corner of Beach St. & Winthrop Ave.), REVERE at 10:30 a.m.

Born & raised in Revere, she was a 1938 alumna of Revere High School. Mrs. McCarthy had a 25 year career with Shawmut Bank of Boston & later at the Shawmut Bank of Revere, as a bookkeeper. She lived in the Beachmont section of Revere, for most of her life and was a devotee of the former Our Lady of Lourdes Church. She was a lector, an instructor for the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine and a founding member of the Ladies’ Solidarity. For many years she also volunteered at the church rectory as a secretary & portress. Mrs. McCarthy also was member of the Boston Chapter of the Third Order of St. Francis. She would be most honored to be referred to as a sincere and proud Roman Catholic. Mrs. McCarthy was also an exemplary Boston Sports Fan, “The Red Sox” being her top favorite.

Mrs. McCarthy was the beloved wife of the late Charles H. McCarthy, Sr., who died on September 14, 1991. She is the cherished mother of Retired Chief Master Sgt. Charles McCarthy, Jr. USAF & his wife Charlene of Palm Harbor, Fl., Mary A. Lewis & her husband Ron of Venice, Fla., Ann Marie McCarthy & Eileen E. McCarthy, both of Revere & John P. McCarthy & his wife Cynthia of Lynn. She is the devoted grandmother of Ann Marie Folk of Tampa, Fl., Eileen Bennett of Shreveport, La., Charles McCarthy of Valencia, Ca., Jennifer Goodson of Portsmouth, NH., Dr. Heidi Goodson of Philadelphia, Pa., Lauren Collinson of Boston, Kathleen McCarthy of Cambridge, Sean McCarthy & Maryanne McCarthy, both of Lynn & Ryan McCarthy of Salem, Ma. Frank A. Belmonte, Sr.

Belmonte, Sr. who died unexpectedly while wintering in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. His funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Thursday, April 20th at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass in the Immaculate Conception Church (Corner of Beach St. & Winthrop Ave.), REVERE at 10:30 a.m.

Born in Winthrop, he was raised & educated in Revere, graduating from Revere High School, Class of 1957. He served with the US Marine Corps at the end of the Korean Conflict, through December of 1959. He was a proud member of the Marine Corps League of Watertown for many years. He also was a member of the Melrose Elks Lodge, the Winthrop Yacht Club, the Sons of Italy-Port Charlotte Fl. Lodge. Most of his working career was spent in the auto mechanic repair & servicing industry. From 1976-2003, he owned & operated his own Garage, Belmonte Truck Service of Melrose. For the past five years, Frank has wintered in Florida & summered in Warwick, Rhode Island.

He is the beloved husband of the late, Kathleen A. (Connolly) Belmonte, who passed on August 3rd, 2011. He is the cherished father of Kathleen A. Rolli & her husband Joseph of Stoneham, Barbara M. Hoffman & her husband Howard of Danvers, Frank A. Belmonte, Jr.& his wife Laura of Londonderry N.H., Joseph J. Belmonte & his wife Kimberly of Franklinton, No. Carolina, Larraine V. Elliott & her husband Robert of Haverhill, Scott E. Belmonte of Kingston, N.H. He is the devoted Grandfather to Leah D., Brittany E. and Meredith S. Hoffman, all of Danvers, Frank A. Belmonte, III of Londonderry, NH., Nicholas J. Rolli of Stoneham, Cameron J. & Caitlyn J. Belmonte, both of Franklinton, No. Carolina & Brendan S. Elliott of Bradford. On September 30th, 2022, we proudly purchased the Vazza “Beechwood” Funeral Home – DiPietro and Vazza, Inc. A name that has served families for 102 years. We feel blessed that with all of the interest, the Vazza Family chose us to carry on their century old business and family name. We will become Vertuccio Smith & Vazza, Beechwood Home for Funerals. We will continue to honor the Vazza name and continue our commitment the same way that we always have. We also look forward to having both Louis Vazza and Jessica Vazza Ferragamo alongside of us, as we come together as one.
Our reputation has always been our biggest asset. For many years people always wanted us to have a larger facility, now our facility is the largest funeral home in the area. We will be making many beautiful upgrades to allow our families to have the most elegant facility to honor their loved one.
Although this announcement is bittersweet, as we say goodbye to our home, we are forever grateful for all of you for placing your constant faith and trust in us to care for your loved one. We will continue to do what we are best known for.

To all our families, friends, and residents of Revere, East Boston, and surrounding communities of the North Shore,

We would like to announce that after 37 years of caring for thousands of families at our 773 Broadway location, on January 31st, 2023 we will be officially RELOCATING, to our new location at 262 Beach St., Revere.

On September 30th, 2022, we proudly purchased the Vazza “Beechwood” Funeral Home – DiPietro and Vazza, Inc. A name that has served families for 102 years. We feel blessed that with all of the interest, the Vazza Family chose us to carry on their century old business and family name. We will become Vertuccio Smith & Vazza, Beechwood Home for Funerals. We will continue to honor the Vazza name and continue our commitment the same way that we always have. We also look forward to having both Louis Vazza and Jessica Vazza Ferragamo alongside of us, as we come together as one.

Our reputation has always been our biggest asset. For many years people always wanted us to have a larger facility, now our facility is the largest funeral home in the area. We will be making many beautiful upgrades to allow our families to have the most elegant facility to honor their loved one.

Although this announcement is bittersweet, as we say goodbye to our home, we are forever grateful for all of you for placing your constant faith and trust in us to care for your loved one. We will continue to do what we are best known for.
